Living
Cost of living for a two
person household is approx. 300 Euros per
month. Many things are cheap in Turkey,
compared to the Western Europe. You will be
able to keep the same standard of living at a
lower cost.
The bureaucracy
is not so bad, but strange for the most people
coming from Europe. But we can ensure, it
works. We can help so it will work as smooth
as possible.
People who will settle
down here need a residence permit. Normally it
will be given without any problem
at the police station.
For disabled
pensioners Alanya is a paradise to live, with
the good climate and low cost.
Especially for
people with rheumatic problems
the climate is perfect. After
a short time here they can stop with
the medicine or minimize it to a very low
level.
The hospitals and the health caretakers give a
very good service, generally the doctors are
very good and have good education.
Turkey has excellent dentists, who make
qualitatively high-standing work for a
fraction of the price, which you pay in
Europe.
The climate is mild during the winter. The
best season for a holiday is Apr - Oct. To
stay here in July, August and September you
must be a genuine "sun fanatic".

and Istanbul, but no connection along the
coast
Buses: The most comfortable and most
practical means of transport of Turkey. Prices
are low, bus enterprises professional and
reliable. Tickets at the bus stations (otogar)
Ferry boats: different connections as
between Fethiye and Rhodes, Alanya and
Northern Cyprus or between Mersin and Northern
Cyprus
City buses

net. Stops nearly everywhere and accepts
passengers. Just wave!
Price after distance.
Rent a car: inexpensive and in touristy
places in multiplicity available. The European
driving licence is sufficient. Some require a
minimum age of 24 years. Often you find
Turkish vehicles that
often have a too soft suspension. The imported
vehicles of Ford or Fiat are better.
Taxi: far spreads and inexpensive.
Should have a taximeter. Also fix price can be
constituted.
Car import:
European citizens, who travel for touristy
purposes to Turkey, can introduce their motor
vehicle like car, camper, minibus or
motorcycle for at most six months in one
calendar year temporarily to Turkey.
By importing you have to fill out the "import
and export for motor vehicles" form with the
customs house and the vehicle will be
registered into the passport of the owner. At
expiration of six
months the vehicle must be exported. If you
plan to settle down here, it is recommendable
to buy a car in Turkey.

Tips For Shopping
Bargain on all prices except food. If you are
any good at bargaining, you could get the
price down by as much as 50 percent in some
places. With jewellery it is possible to get
the price reduced by up to 30 percent.
In general the salesmen are honest and you
therefore do not have to worry that you are
being tricked into buying a copy at the price
of an original. Usually the price will reflect
the authenticity of the goods. You will often
find that even if the item is a copy it is of
very good quality nevertheless.
If you are buying something expensive such as
jewellery or carpets, be sure to ask for a
certificate of guarantee with the name of the
store on it.
Markets
Cost of living is
low in Alanya, the vegetables are fresh and of
high quality. They are mostly produced in the
surrounding villages up in the valleys. These
products are brought to Alanya daily, so they
are always fresh. This is also the same with
the meat.
It is not only small items that can be found
at the markets of Alanya. Often there is the
possibility of obtaining a very good bargain.
Local farmers sell fruit and
vegetables, laboriously brought from the
mountains and markets outside the town.
Many different people visit the
markets. Tourists and locals all come to shop
for their daily needs.
You cannot bargain over the price of fruit and
vegetables. This is not necessary anway as the
prices on these seasonal produce are very low
to start with. The
markets are open from sunrise to sunset.
Turkish Carpets
These colourful and often very beautiful
carpets differ from other oriental carpets by
being the only ones in the world knotted with
double knots. Techniqually this means that
each knot itself is secured twice around the
transverse threads. Turkish carpets are
therefore said to last longer than other
handmade carpets.
To ensure the carpet is handmade try turning
it over to have a look at the fringes on the
edge of the carpet. On machine made carpets
this edge will often be sewn onto the carpet.
Also try to pull the fringes. The thread
should yield through the whole carpet.
Gold & Jewels
It is well worth buying gold in Alanya. The
price of gold is the same all over the world
but there is a big difference when it comes to
the cost of manufacture. Therefore
the jewellery shops in Alanya always offer
gold at better prices than those at home.
The gold sold in Alanya is from the gold
market in Istanbul and mainly originates from
South Africa.
In Turkey diamonds are not normally used -
instead brilliants are very popular. These
brilliants come from Europe.
Skin & Leather
When travelling to Turkey it is highly
recommended that you buy leather goods. Skin
and leather have become desirable goods due to
excellent prices.
The raw material, preparation and workmanship
are all cheaper in Turkey.
Leather shops in Alanya are in
abundance and thus provide a large unlimited
selection.
When buying skin and leather you have to make
sure that the stitching and lining are of a
good quality. However, you do not need to
worry about the quality of the leather itself
as it is always the genuine article.
